King Edward Chapel Wedding of Angie and Paul, November 2025
This. Wedding. Rocked. Literally.
Angie and Paul are Macclesfield-born and bred. They set out to do their wedding their way! Everything, including flowers, dress (both Bride and Groom’s), barbers and hairdressers, makeup artist and photographer (Me!!) was kept as local to Macclesfield as possible and incorporated old and new traditions. Music is really important to both of them – woven into their lives and that of their friends.
Their wedding ceremony was held at King Edward Street Chapel, an old, atmospheric, beautiful, and inclusive venue, tucked away out of sight. All guests were asked to come as they were to show their personalities in what they wore. All the decorations were handmade by Angie.
Angie and Paul had bucked tradition (I approve!) - no Bridesmaids or Best Man. They were given away by their children. The children walked down the aisle to The Cure's Love Story. Their very special friend Paul 'Biff' Bateman, all dressed in his finest long coat and top hat, did them the honour of playing guitar as they walked down the dual aisles to a very rock version of Here Comes the Bride.
The ceremony was full of love, laughter and music. It included a circle of support from friends and family, and the wedding rings being passed to their Celebrant by all of the children. Instead of readings were poems and instead of hymns, everybody sang along to The Ramones, “Baby I Love You” and Queen “We Will Rock You”. A final treat was a beautiful original song to accompany them back up the aisle, written again by their friend Paul Bateman and sung by Mick Deeley.
There followed a walk by the couple and their guests through Macclesfield town centre to their reception venue, Macclesfield Masonic Hall. Another welcome break from tradition when the Bride gave the speech. And then.... a big surprise - singing waiters, always guaranteed to have everybody up singing, dancing and doing the Conga. A delicious buffet fed everyone and a first dance to “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, and their friend Darren, the DJ, kept everyone dancing through the night.
